The 42Ava National Wool and Brass Fair begins

With the National Wool and Brass Fair, it is again for the Sanmiguelenses, by exalting its cultural legacy

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, GTO.- This was stated by the municipal president, Mauricio Trejo, when inaugurating the 42nd edition of this traditional exhibition, which has been held from this Friday 19 until November 28 in the main garden.

“We want a San Miguel for the Sanmiguelenses;The main square is again from the Sanmiguelenses.It's going to be a success.They are the things we have to rescue, it is a town with a lot of magic;The main asset of San Miguel de Allende is you the Sanmiguelenses.Wool and brass is a tradition that has been part of our culture that we should not lose, but we must recover.Unfortunately he neglected again, but we are here again to put all the effort and return to the good times, ”said Mauricio Trejo.

During the opening ceremony, Trejo Pureco toured the fair and appreciated the products of wool, brass, metalist and paper Maché that exposes a group of 30 local artisans, who have kept this job alive for 4 centuries and has given identity since 1978.

Back to the main garden and with the exclusive presence of Sanmiguelenses artisans, the National Wool and Brass Fair joined the activities that continue to drive and reactivate the local economy, offering more and better opportunities for the talent of the Sanmiguelenses.Its first edition, in 1978, was held at the Ignacio Ramírez Cultural Center ‘El Nigromante’ and now takes up the first painting of the city to be available to the Sanmiguelenses, tourists and visitors.

The municipal president said that, in addition to this annual edition, local artisans will have more spaces scheduled during the same year, strengthening the sales of their products in favor of hundreds of families that are supported by the artisanal work.

There are currently 7 local wool workshops and 4 active looms, which have kept alive this Sanmiguelense tradition.

The skills of the Sanmiguelense people have expressed themselves with innumerable crafts since the pre -Hispanic period, mainly with products related to livestock and textile industry, and with the presence of “borregueras” farms from the foundation of San Miguel in 1542, evolving specialized trades,with creative processes, techniques and original designs that have been inheritance for generations among Sanmiguelenses families.
