Normally to show off radiant and healthy skin we go to cosmetics, creams of all kinds, various treatments, masks or exfoliants. But what if you really didn't need any of it? This is what Whitney Bowe (@DrWhitneyBowe) tells us, the integrative dermatology, aesthetics and wellness doctor, a true eminence in the field and one of the most well-known and sought-after dermatologists in the United States. In her recently published book Radiant Skin, Healthy Intestine (Ed. Urano @Ediciones_Urano), she offers us a different way of caring for our skin: from within.
What is the secret to glowing skin? Bowe says it clearly in his copy: the secret begins by acquiring simple life habits where an optimal relationship between intestine-brain-skin is contemplated. This maxim is the soul of all luminous skin, that is, knowing well the link that exists between beneficial microbes for the body, the brain and the skin.
As the author explains, there are a large number of microbes, known as the microbiome, that colonize the skin and intestine. These play a fundamental role in the health of our organism and can even affect the expression of DNA. That is why the doctor has developed a new skin care method that takes into account this group of beings and their relationship with our digestive system. In fact, there is a phrase that perfectly defines this system: “Less cosmetics and more probiotics”.
In this way, the expert explains how we have to eat to take care of the skin and which vitamins or minerals are what bring more health and vitality to our largest organ. She gives us the guidelines to achieve what is known as Bowe skin, offering a 21-day program based on nutrition and stress control.
In addition to paying attention to what we eat, the dermatologist reviews the type of cosmetics we use and other beauty rituals. That is why she incorporates advice in each case and according to how old we are. In the same way, it highlights the importance of exercising for the skin and the benefits that this implies in it.
