12 mistakes you should never make in your skin care routine

MADRID, 30 Jan. (EDITIONS) -

Taking care of your skin is not just a matter of image. It is a protective barrier that acts as a shield against any attack or external threat. For this reason, the ultimate goal of taking care of our skin or using a certain treatment should always be to keep it as healthy as possible, and not simply to beautify it. A healthy skin, after all, will look radiant.

As highlighted by Lilin Yang, Leah Ganse and Sara Jiméz (MiiN Cosmetics, experts in Korean cosmetics in Spain) in 'The Korean art of skin care' (Zenith), "the skin sends us signals and it is important to observe them to know what you really need.

With this, they defend that knowing the skin of each person is the first step to find a routine according to the needs of each one and, within the skin care process, they highlight a series of mistakes that should not be made never if we want her to be healthy:

1.- Apply the cosmetics in the wrong order: They defend that the order does alter the result, which is why they emphasize that, as a general rule, the products with a more liquid texture should always be applied first and leave for the final those with denser texture. For example, he cites that the toner, essential in any facial skin care process, serves to balance the skin's pH after cleansing and should be applied before any other moisturizing product or treatment.

2.- Forget to take care of the neck: You have to use the same moisturizing cream that is applied to the face and not forget about this part of the body. Like the skin on the face, the skin on the neck loses elasticity, firmness and hydration over the years.

3.- Using antiaging products ahead of time: The important thing is to prevent but buying antiaging products ahead of time can be counterproductive. Cosmetics with anti-aging properties contain ingredients that our skin does not need. To prevent, the most useful thing is to keep the skin hydrated from a young age so that the signs of aging are not so pronounced. There is no exact age at which to start using antiaging products; It depends on our genetics and the lifestyle we lead. The answer will always be in the mirror and on our skin, not in the slogan on any packaging.

4.- Moisturize the skin only when it feels dry: The skin sends us signals and dryness can be one of them. Lack of hydration causes flaking. If we see these symptoms, it means that we have not been moisturizing our skin well. That is why we must do it before noticing these changes and not start right at the moment we see them appear.

5.- Not moisturizing the skin because it is oily: Many people deprive their oily skin of hydration because there is a widespread myth that the cream will only cause more sebum, when in fact it is quite the opposite. Oily skin must be hydrated to avoid an overproduction of sebum, which is generated to cover the lack of hydration. The trick is knowing how to choose a cream that hydrates the skin but is not occlusive or leaves residue. The best for oily skin are gel textures.

6.- Put moisturizing cream before the eye contour: Have you been thinking for years that the eye contour is the last step? You are in time to change it. The eye contour should always be applied before the cream or lotion so that it penetrates deeply. If we do it the other way around, the only thing we will achieve is that the facial cream creates a barrier and the contour does not act.

7.- Protect yourself from the sun only in the summer months: Very typical. We know very well how harmful it can be to not protect yourself from the sun. The skin has a memory and all the solar rays that we accumulate throughout our lives will appear at one time or another in the form of spots or premature aging. On rainy, snowy or foggy days, for example, you should also wear sunscreen.

8.- Use makeup remover wipes every night. How comfortable they are! But they are not the best option to clean the skin. It will only take you another minute to do the step correctly and remove makeup with the double cleansing method. Your skin will thank you for life. The basic level of double cleansing at night is the same as the day, but adding the extra step of the first cleanser, since our skin accumulates toxins throughout the day. This consists of: Double cleansing, first with make-up remover or cleansing oil, in balm or oil format, and then use a water-based cleanser, such as foams or gels. Then add the toner, followed by the serum or mask, and finally the moisturizer.

9.- Do not double cleanse if you are not wearing make-up: It is only one more minute and the difference between doing it and not doing it is abysmal. Even if you don't wear makeup, the first step of cleansing is to remove any remaining oil from the skin. The best way to remove it is an oil-based cleaner.

10.- Apply the products by rubbing the skin too much: No more rubbing will make the skin cleaner. The only thing you will achieve is irritate her and make her red. There is a way to apply products with a liquid texture that is much more beneficial for your skin: pour a little product on the palm of your hand and warm it by joining both hands. Then gently press the palms of your hands onto the surface of your face.

11.- Use mechanical exfoliants on sensitive or acne-prone skin: Exfoliants have the function of deeply cleansing the skin, but if you have very sensitive skin or acne-prone skin, you should avoid mechanical exfoliants (those that contain particles solid). If you have acne, the only thing you will do is attack the surface of the skin and consequently it will be easier for it to become infected.

12.- Not storing the products in a suitable place: Heat, light or humidity, for example, are factors that can affect the composition of the products. For example, vitamin C oxidizes with light and stops having an effect. High temperatures also affect the state of the products. You have to find a safe storage place to keep your property.
