Speculation about a mid-engine Corvette had been speculating for years and for this eighth generation it finally became a reality. After months and months of teasers, spy photos and videos, and speculation, lots of speculation, the long-awaited 2020 Chevrolet Corvette has been revealed to the world.

As we pointed out a few hours ago, the new Chevrolet Corvette 2020 arrives under the name Stingray and is equipped with an updated version of the 6.2-liter V8 engine, whose power is 495 horsepower at 6,450 rpm with 470 pound-feet of torque. linear. This translates into an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 3 seconds.

The most drastic change, however, is that for the first time in its history, the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray ditches the manual transmission and replaces it with a Tremec eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

According to the bowtie brand, with this powertrain, the new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray improves in all aspects the driving experience that we knew in previous models, at the same time, it evolves at a technological level and in finishes and customization options. .

Additionally, this new sports car gets a revised suspension to match its new mid-engine setup; in the case of the Z51 version we will have a track-tuned suspension which will be slightly stiffer. Also available is the adjustable Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 suspension, as well as a new nose lift feature that will work in conjunction with GPS. That means the car will be able to automatically program the front end lift when, for example, it approaches a curb or bump.

And the above leads us to emphasize that this new car will have a large space in the trunk: "12.6 cubic feet, enough to carry two bags of golf clubs," according to Chevrolet.

During the introduction of the car, Mark Reuss, CEO of General Motors commented: “The Corvette has always represented the highest level of innovation and has pushed General Motors to push its own limits. The traditional front engine achieved the highest limits of performance, but we needed a new format.

The executive noted that: “In terms of comfort, fun and image, the new model looks like a real Corvette, but handles much better than any other Corvette in history. Consumers are going to be impressed with our new focus, details and overall performance in every way."

Reuss said the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will be built exclusively at GM's Bowling Green, Kentucky plant, and that better weight distribution and a slight rake at the rear have significantly improved high-speed performance, both on straights and on the track.

At the same time, this new sports car gets better response and control thanks to the driver being closer to the front, as a result of the new engine configuration.

It is important to mention that the center of gravity of the car is now located directly next to the hip of the driver, who by the way will have at his disposal different seats, from the GT1, the GT2 sports model or the sports model designed specifically for track, with carbon fiber shell.

Also new to the new Corvette is that an extensive personalization program will be available starting with 12 body colors, along with six interior color combinations, including six different seat belt colors.

Reuss commented that the interior of the new Corvette is much more focused on the driver, with the controls much more at hand, in a cabin that envelops its occupants. The position of the push-button selector to activate forward or reverse gear stands out. The package is complemented by paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel.

Before ending the press conference, the CEO of GM stated, amid a deafening wave of applause, that the price of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will start at $60,000, that is, 1.13 million pesos at the exchange rate. current.
