Fashion editors' favorite bags at New York Fashion Week

FashionThe busy schedule of New York Fashion Week makes traveling a challenge for editors, so bags are a great ally.

If New York Fashion Week in September had a phrase, it would be 'On with the show!' After several seasons of absence, editors, buyers and influencers sit in the front row again, of course, with their masks firmly on. For those who must attend many events, this week is a juggling contest between parades, presentations, dinners and cocktails. You can't always change clothes between daytime and evening commitments, and there's rarely even time for a snack or touch up your makeup, which means everything you might need for the day should be thrown into one of your favorite bags. , and ready!

No one knows that better than our editors. A group of people who, for the next seven days, will go from show to show with a practical bag (or two) swinging, hanging from the arm or styling the look. Do our editors prefer tote bags? Is the practicality of intersecting bags better? Or micro bags that are easy to carry while sitting by the catwalk?

Below, 14 editors reveal which bags they plan to wear at this edition of New York Fashion Week. Naturally, each one has been strategically chosen: fashion meets function in this list of practical bags.

Virginia Smith, Global Head of Fashion Network

"I tend to opt for two bags at Fashion Week: a larger one to carry everything and a smaller one to rush in and out of shows."

Rickie De Sole, Executive Fashion Director, Vogue.com

'During fashion month, I usually alternate between a classic bag and a slightly more fun, patterned bag. It's always about a balance between how many things I need to take with me that day and what I'm wearing.'

Emily Farra, Senior Fashion News Editor

'I wear my By Far mini bag almost every day, but it's perfect for Fashion Week. It has enough room for essentials (including my iPhone 12 Mini; I don't think I'll fit a bigger phone) and it doesn't weigh me down when I have to rush to the next parade. Also, people always ask me about him on the street. The shape is so pretty!'

Elise Taylor, Senior Lifestyle Writer

'The 'no white after Labor Day' rule is a meaningless rule, especially when it comes to this bag from Mark Cross. Functional enough to fit all my essentials (Phone! Keys! Wallet! Lipstick! Pen!) but not bulky enough to be a bother, it goes perfectly with, well, everything. that's in my wardrobe, just like a white t-shirt. Which, considering I'll be doing a lot of costume changes from day to night this week, is an essential quality.'

'When I'm covering beauty backstage and behind the scenes at Fashion Week, I need hands free and access to my laptop while I'm hard at work (or stalking, as I like to say!). Clé de Peau Beauté gifted me with this 'Paravel' nylon foldable backpack (made in an environmentally friendly way) that I took from New York to Paris during fashion month. It's light as a feather and slippery as satin, so I can move like the wind. When another bag broke while waiting for an Uber, I had this one inside and changed all the items without missing my ride.'

Julie Tong, Senior Sales Editor

'I love bags that allow you to keep your hands free, or at least ones that aren't uncomfortable to wear. There's nothing worse than trying to juggle your phone, invitations, notebook, sunglasses, and more all at once. I love my Advene Edge bag in caramel color. It's light and easy to carry over the shoulders or on the arm and keeps everything compact thanks to the zipper at the top, but is still easily accessible with one hand.'

'My other bag for Fashion Week this season is the little 'Jeanne' from Khaite. I love that I can carry it across the body and keep all my essentials easily stored, especially when I'm running to a show. Although the 'Jeanne' is sadly out of stock at the moment, the Adeline bag is a similar version, and is next on my list.'

Eliseé Browchuk, Director of Marketing and Production

'This season I'll be carrying the By Far suede bag all over town. Not only does the orange color go perfectly with all my fall staples, but the practicality of the baguette is more than handy for stashing my mask, phone and keys on the go.'

Madeline Fass, Sales Editor

'I love something roomy enough for the essentials, but small enough that it's not like a tire to lug around all day. This week, I'll most likely keep it minimal and monochromatic, either with my Paco crossbody bag or the Wandler mini bag. Each one of them guarantees a perfect balance between practicality and touch that makes my looks a little more fun. That's what Fashion Week is all about, isn't it?'

Alexis Bennett, Sales Writer

'This season you'll see me carrying my laptop around, but it won't be in a tattered duffel bag. I'll take my roomy Strathberry bag. It's big enough to carry everything I need (including an extra pair of shoes). Plus, it's just as stylish as my looks for New York Fashion Week.'

Lilah Ramzi, Sales Editor

'I have often talked about Mark Cross bags on this website. My favorite bag is the Grace Box (named after Grace Kelly, my muse par excellence); however, Fashion Week calls for a larger bag to hold phone chargers, notebooks, and other things I don't usually carry in my hands. So I discovered the Madeline bag, an equally elegant bag that has all the grace of the Grace bag, but with a little more space.'

Rachel Besser, Sales Editor

'Traditionally I have given up bags altogether. I like to keep my hands free and also eliminate the fear of forgetting my bag at a show or in the car while mentally juggling all my tasks for the day. Now smaller bags have become my specialty. I like Prada's little shoulder bags—her Nylon bag has been a tried and tested option for years—and I have a vintage Dior bag with floral embroidery that I can also sling over my shoulder. I don't forget these bags, they don't weigh me down when I'm on the go, and they're big enough to fit all my essentials, including a cereal bar if I get hungry.'

Clarissa Schmidt, Sales Producer

'As an editorial producer, I work behind the scenes at NYFW to ensure that all of our brilliant stories run smoothly as writers and editors come and go from the shows. I take the phrase 'everything but the kitchen sink' very literally when it comes to my job bags. This is the perfect size to accommodate my laptop, my notepads, all my chargers, and still have plenty of room for my day-to-day essentials.'

Steff Yotka, Fashion News Editor

'The most important thing for NYFW is a bag that can hold all your belongings — notebook, charger, laptop, snacks — and a bottle of water to keep you hydrated.'

Laird Borrelli-Persson, Archive Editor

'As I love ribbons and bows, I can't imagine ever getting bored of the knots on the Acne Leather Top Handle Bag. I've coveted the mini pistachio version, but I doubt my phone will fit in it, and I need it for all sorts of things during Fashion Week, like recording interviews and booking Ubers. In my bag there is a note from my son; a Diptyque solid perfume, 'L'Ombre dans l'Eau', to put behind the ears for a quick olfactory pick-me-up; and, for a little shine, 'The Goldie Highlighter' by Veronique Gabai. I like to apply a little to my hands so I can see and enjoy the shine. By the way, on days when I have to carry the laptop everywhere, I keep it in a glitter bag from ABBA Stockholm.
