Designer Kate Spade found dead in New York

Tapestry Inc, the handbag company formerly known as Coach, bought Kate Spade in May 2017. The strategy was to reach out to millennials, who are drawn to the company's quirky and colorful handbags.

Kate Spade New York has more than 140 retail stores in the United States and more than 175 stores worldwide, according to the company's website.

The New York Police Department confirmed the death of the designer under her first name, Katherine Noel Brosnahan.
