Ortega Government Protest for Summer in OAS

The Government of Daniel Ortega, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua, protested this Monday, October 18 for the call to session made by the Organization of American States (OAS) to discuss the situation of the country for the elections of 7 of November.

The agency will meet next Wednesday, October 20 at 10:00 a.m. (8:00 am, Nicaragua time). In the letter the Ortega government made it clear that "it does not accept to discuss, or judge the acts of sovereignty that the Nicaraguan people, in the exercise of their fundamental rights, performs to live."

Nicaragua's government authorities added in a letter published in official media their rejection of the OAS meeting for considering it "illegitimate since birth", and therefore announced that "they will not participate."

"We do not participate in it, since our respect for the rights of the other peoples of our America, begins to enforce the fundamental rights of Nicaragua and the Nicaraguans," they said.

  • The Government of Nicaragua faces an intense criticism from the international community because the elections will be held in the midst of a discouraging landscape and that generates little confidence to the citizens.
