The mastermind behind Daniel Espinosa Jewelry

DÚ: Mexico is a country rich in silver, since its beginnings as a nation this mineral developed life in ancient New Spain and today it is part of our looks, What is it like to work with this metal?

The truth is that I really enjoy it because I was born in Taxco, I grew up in Taxco and it is a destination rich in goldsmiths. I really enjoy remembering what my childhood was like and seeing that the love for money was always with me, it is something very beautiful. As a child I saw the assistants of the silversmiths running around the town carrying the metal, polishing pastes and other objects that to this day make the creation of a jewel an art.

Daniel Espinosa tells us about his jewelry and of his new museum “Casa de Plata”

DÚ: What inspires you to create a jewel?

It's usually the trips! I take note of everything that catches my eye and this can be anything: a building, a lighting system, the architectural structure of a place that I visit or its color scheme… Inspiration is in the air and it's good Always keep your eyes wide open to see it.

DÚ: What is the most difficult thing about working with silver?

I think the most complicated thing is that each jewel is a sculpture. Each piece is a little different from the next and then you cannot expect them all to be the same, because that is the beauty of each piece.

They are all made in such an artisan way and they, in addition to having an incredible design, have the work of a master silversmith who put love and dedication to the piece that we are delivering. DÚ: What does your firm offer all jewelry lovers that no other offers?

The origin! Creating from a town that is dedicated to silver and being able to continue with the career that all the master silversmiths have left here is something that no other firm can offer you. Our work is handmade, unique, and we rescue techniques that to this day allow us to put that seed of love for the traditional that is still current, fashionable and, above all, that our clients continue to fall in love with.

“Casa de Plata”: museum workshop for everyone

DÚ: From your point of view as a Mexican and as a designer, how is it that you can exhibit the work of master silversmiths outside of Mexico?

The work of the master silversmiths is so artistic that initiatives such as the Casa de Plata museum workshop help locals and strangers to know in a more vivid way the process behind their jewels.

We want people to see all the love and passion that there is when working with silver, because it is the way that someone who is not familiar with the world of jewelry falls in love with this beautiful world and thus open spaces for master silversmiths.

DÚ: Tell us everything we need to know about the “Casa de Plata” workshop-museum.

This project makes artisans feel more strongly the passion and pride of working in Mexican goldsmithing. I saw that when some people close to me came and saw everything behind her jewelry, they were fascinated. This is how the idea of this workshop space that has a 100% different cut was born.

The Californian house serves as a workshop, museum and goldsmith school so that all the young silversmiths of Taxco can access such an ancient trade at the hands of 100% qualified artisans, with the knowledge so that they become great artisans.

An exclusive piece

DÚ: Changing the subject a bit, your firm has a piece that those who know the most about fashion continue to fall in love with and that is the “jewel bag”. Tell us a little about this exclusive piece.

In my house the olinalá boxes were given as gifts to visitors, I loved this detail and the aroma of these boxes has always been impregnated in my life. When I wanted to make a collection of jewel bags I thought of something very close to me and that's how this piece was born.

The jewel bags are extremely handmade and people wait as long as it takes to have a piece of these. The olinalá boxes allowed me to learn from them to make this exclusive adaptation. Now, I have to tell you that these are serial and none is repeated.

DÚ: For you, what can't be missing in a jewelry box?

Jewelry was made to be seen and sparkled, so a maximalist piece is a must for women's jewelery boxes. I think this is for 100% self-confident women and a great style ally for everyone.
