The Balearic Islands request the intervention of the Government to remove a cosmetic line that encourages prostitution

In a letter addressed to Minister Irene Montero, collected in a press release, the minister has demanded that the Ministry require the distributor and the company to immediately stop advertising this 'sugar daddy' line, which it calls the different shades of eye shadow with words like "Dinner in Paris, Weekly pay, Urgent transfer or I could be your granddaughter".

From the Conselleria they have explained that, as is known, the figure of the 'Sugar daddy' -name of the cosmetic line- is that of a man of a certain age who awaits the satisfaction of his sexual desires by an adolescent or young woman --'sugar baby'-- in exchange for gifts, trips or some other compensation. "Only the use of these terms already supposes an evident incitement and normalization of prostitution," they have indicated.

Garrido has stressed that from the Government they want women to never be forced into prostitution again "and that is why a change of values is necessary." «We are working on this, from prevention and education, in collaboration with organizations and associations from different fields. It is not tolerable that, while society is moving towards equality and the defense of women's rights, some commercial brands promote just the opposite," Garrido said.

For this reason, under article 41 of the Organic Law for the Effective Equality of Women and Men, which prohibits sexist or discriminatory advertising, the Government has requested the withdrawal of both the products and their advertising.

This intervention could be carried out by the Government itself if the sexist advertising were regional, but this case requires intervention at the state level, given that the company and the advertisements have a presence beyond the autonomous community.
