Use soap in the right measure, it can be harmful to your skin

You love soap, it is essential in our lives. Initially our ancestors washed their skin only and exclusively with water. The problem is that the odor was not eliminated with the water, so over time the soap began to be used.

At first it was sold as a beauty product and was therefore considered a very healthy item.

But… what if I told you that soap is not entirely healthy for your skin? Sounds contradictory, right? Well, to understand this statement, we must start from the beginning, what is skin made of?

Soap on the skin, this is how it works

The skin is made up of three layers, epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous fat.

The skin is the largest organ of our body and, at the same time, the first and best line of immune defense that we have, since thanks to the epidermis, or what is the same, the layer of cells that surrounds us, we we protect from many diseases, as if it were a shell.

That is why when the epidermis is damaged -among other reasons due to the inappropriate use of soap-, the germs come to that area causing itching and redness.

The pH of our skin

Usa jabón en la justa medida, puede ser perjudicial para tu piel

We must know that it is a layer that is between the epidermis and the dermis, whose objective is to lubricate and protect the skin.

The PH, both of the body and the face, usually ranges between 4.7 and 5.7, so it is very difficult for harmful bacteria to grow on our skin.

The PH may vary slightly depending on the area of the body, the gender of the person, eternal exposures, frequent washing, genetics, age and hormones.

Beware: IT IS NOT A NEUTRAL PH, that is, a neutral PH would be 7, which is that of water, in the case of exceeding this number, we would already speak of an alkaline PH, which is very common in soaps.

Well, understanding this part, we have to take into account that there are trillions of different bacteria in our body, so we could say that it is made up of a microbiota ecosystem.

The interesting thing about this system is that, as the years go by and we grow, our skin evolves and therefore, all those bacteria that accompany us and that make up that system, also do so.

And they do it according to our way of life, so they adapt to where we live and its climate, to the people with whom we live or have regular contact, to our pets, to the clothes we wear...

Thanks to the evolution that all these bacteria carry out, we are still alive, because it allows them to continue protecting us, otherwise we would be exposed to many pathogens-

Having said all this, let's start talking about soap, a fairly simple chemical substance, but within its simplicity, it can be harmful since it not only removes dirt but also damages our protective layer, so it directly disrupts our defense, being able to change the PH of our body.

This is the reason, for example, that many people who take long bubble baths or take a shower 3 or 4 times a day to take a "quick shower" suffer from dry skin, redness, or unbearable itching among other symptoms.

No. What we have to do is welcome moisturizers and body oils, as these repair the damage that the body gel has previously done.

Exfoliation is very important, especially when the skin begins to mature. When you are young, the replacement of the cells is done much faster and without any difficulty, but over the years the replacement of the cells slows down, so the skin acquires a damaged appearance. That is why it is convenient to exfoliate at least once a week after a certain age.

In short, as you can read, skin care is a very personal matter, each skin is a different world and never better said, a world of cells and bacteria. The state of the skin is an external representation of our health in general, the skin tells us how we eat, how we sleep, whether we hydrate both inside and out, as well as whether we exercise or suffer from stress.

As a summary:

We have many options to take care of the skin, do not leave it for when it has no remedy.
