Health asks for the withdrawal of 14 solar creams

The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS), under the Ministry of Health, has requested the voluntary withdrawal of 14 sunscreen that the sun protection factor (FPS) does not correspond to the labeling.

This petition occurs after the end of the market control campaign of sun protection products, initiated in December 2019 and whose objective was to ensure that the sun protection factor (FPS) that appeared in the labeling did not discrete the determined in the trials.

THE BELL

The initiative has focused on sunscreens with FPS 50 and FPS 50+ with novel galenic forms such as very light creams, mists and sprays.For the sample to be representative, 19 products of companies of different sizes and origins were chosen (Spanish, European and extra -community) and products of different price ranges.

After receiving the final reports of the trials, the AEMPS has initiated different actions based on the difference between the results obtained in the trials and the claim in its labeling.

Specifically, five of the solar tested have results of SPFS concordant with the degree of protection of their labels, but nine other products did not have a concordant FPS, although values of between 30 and 49.9 have been obtained, considered an SPF within theHigh protection category efficacy interval.

However, the AEMPS has ensured that no incidents for solar burns related to any of these products to the Spanish cosmetavigilance system have not been notified.He has also urged companies to voluntary withdrawal of the lots tested and has requested them with additional tests in other lots to verify the safety of products.

The withdrawn creams

This same action has been required for the products in which a value of the FPS has been obtained less than 60 and 50+ was claimed that is the very high protection category.
