Increase the demand for passengers The 'war' between land and air transport for low tariffs

In recent months, low -cost airlines have offered out -of -season tickets up to $ 30,000 per route, a situation that has worried passenger transporters.

Given these frequent offers of the national airlines of cheap tickets to the main cities, passenger transport entrepreneurs by road affirmed that a critical competition is recorded in the country, which affects the reactivation of the sector.

José Yesid Rodríguez, president of the Association for Integral Development of Intermunicipal Land TransportThat we work to generate more confidence to the user, with excellent service, the issue affects us because our costs are much greater for tolls, fuels and travel times. "

The union leader indicated that, for the end of the year season, they expect an increase in passengers mobilized by the country's roads."We will continue advancing for the reactivation of a sector that promotes the development of Colombia, said the leader of intermunicipal transport entrepreneurs.

Alternatives

For his part, Marino Quintero, president of Asotrans, said that “the challenge for Colombia isAchieving in a blunt way towards a true development, which not only reactivates the country, but also strengthens local tourism, benefiting different sectors such as land transport of passengers, which we generate more than 500 thousand direct jobs and more than 800 thousand indirect, in addition to being the engine of development and growth that drives Colombia. ”

Entrepreneurs considered that the sector has come in a slow recovery, so it is urgent to generate forceful alternatives that allow a speedy reactivation.

Given this situation, businessmen called on the National Government, through the Ministry of Transportation, to consolidate immediate measures that facilitate passenger mobilization during the end of the year.

"For us as a sector, the closures in the main arteries of the country such as the connection between Medellín and Cali, La Vía La Línea, Bogotá-Gardot-Spinal and the Transversal of the East between Yopal and Sogamoso, among others, as well as theLack of restriction in the mobilization of cargo vehicles, they have affected the amount of offices that are carried out, also generating greater operational costs for companies. For the end of the year, in which we hope to increase the demand for passengers, we cannothave these types of inconveniences, ”said José Yesid Rodríguez, president of Aditt.

AUMENTA LA DEMANDA DE PASAJEROS
La ‘guerra’ entre el transporte terrestre y aéreo por bajas tarifas

According to the figures delivered by entrepreneurs, the recovery has been slow and does not reach the growth levels that it brought in 2019. In the case of vehicle offices for the 18 main terrestrial terminals in the country, such as Bogotá, Medellín,Barranquilla, Cali, Bucaramanga, Neiva, Armenia, Manizales, Pereira, Popayán, Pasto, Villavicencio, Cartagena, Santa Marta, Tuluá, Buga, Buenaventura and Ipiales, were reduced from 14.62 million in 2019, to 6.91 million in 2020and 7.35 million offices as of September this year;going from mobilizing more than 136 million passengers in 2019, to 44 million from January to September 2021.

However, in the third quarter of this year an increase of 284.5% in passengers was evidenced, and 181% in dispatched vehicles, compared to the same period of 2020. But, when comparing the third quarter of 2021, compared to 2019, it is evident that the figures are found in -42% in passengers and in -21% in vehicle offices

The airlines

On the other hand, on the side of the airlines, Colombians are pending the cheap tickets after the surprising announcement of Avianca and its "low cost" offer.

And, as the Panamanian property company announced, those interested in traveling the other year to national destinations may do so between February 1 and March 31 for the modest sum of $ 29,900 per route.

The promotion, which applied only for purchases made until November 12, offers 38 Colombian routes for travelers.

The most striking thing is that, just minutes after the announcement, Viva Air, the iconic low -cost airline, ‘responded’ with 400 thousand chairs with trips from $ 28,900 to fly from February to June.

Waiting to see if any other airline adds to this unique "wave of discounts", we present a comparison of the cheapest tickets in the national market and their conditions.

To measure

Avianca has a system of tariffs distributed in letters (in the best style of clothing sizes). That is: "XS" is the most economical and "XXL" rate is the largest cost.

Flying in "XS" gives you the right to carry a personal article of 45 x 35 x 25 cm (tall, long and wide);Something like a bag or a small suitcase, according to what the airline's page points out.

If you want to wear hand luggage or in a warehouse, check-in at the airport and select your seat, you will have to pay additional costs.

The "XS" rate does not allow you to change or reimburse your flight (before the exit), it does not include delivery and reception of luggage and priority approach.Likewise, it will not accumulate miles in the company's program.

For its part, the airline based in Colombia, Viva Air, has three categories of rates: "Base", "Medium" and "Full".

Of all of them, "base" is the most economical and, precisely, is focused on passengers who travel "light" or with small backpacks and bags.

The luggage, in this modality, must fit under the seat or, otherwise, you will have to pay additional.

The passenger has the possibility to perform the check-in digital 48 hours before his flight takes off.

Of course, there is no option to select seat.

The suitcases in the winery, the flight changes without penalty, the row "express" or the priority shipment are only available in the categories "Medum" and "Full".

On the other hand, the "low cost" version of Copa Airlines for Colombia offers three types of "Go" plans: Basic, Plus and Premium. The "Go Basic", as well as those reviewed so far, is the ideal option for people who travel lightly.

Therefore, it includes a personal article of 10 kg (maximum) that must fit under the seat of the plane.

For example, the prices handled by the airlines listed for a round trip from Bogotá to Cartagena to leave on Thursday, March 17 and return on Tuesday 22 (that weekend there is bridge) for a single person.Avianca: $ 223,095 ("S" rate), LATAM: $ 299,290 ("basic" rate), Viva Air: $ 308.170 ("Base" rate) and Wingo: $ 216,070 ("Go basic" rate).
